The Formal Elements of Group 6’s Simulation Artillery game

Players

-2 players in the age group of 20-30

-Akin to chess and Risk to fit the age range

Objectives

-Outwit and overcome your opponent

-Build your deck and army accordingly to navigate the board and gain ammunition.

-Constructing the optimal army is key to winning.

Procedures

-Both players perform the same procedures: collecting your team and moving them

according to the given conventions

-Ex: generals can only move around the perimeter of the board

-Players alternate each turn, nothing allows the players to skip or multiply turns.

-Procedures are entirely placement of assets or attacking.

Rules & Resources

-Only 4 turrets and 1 general are allowed per player. Troops and tanks are unlimited, but

have placement restrictions.

-Players can only refill their hand of troops after the first two turns.

-There are 2 phases to every turn.

-Generals can only be moved during the attack phase.

-Troops are added during the placement phase according to the worth of the

player’s hand.

-Each asset, troop, tank, or general, attack with different dice.

-Artillery can only be placed adjacent to the general, and then adjacent to each other.

The amount of troops laid down is determined by the number value of the

player’s hand.

-Tanks can only be placed where there are 10 troops, and there can only be 2 tanks on a

space.

-There can only be one turret on a space.

-The board has 19 total hexagonal spaces, one of which is an inaccessible “crater”.

-The general can only move around the outer edge of the terrain during placement

phases.

-Time is unlimited.

Conflict

-The central conflict is the battle between players.

-The randomized crater space is an obstacle.

Boundaries

-The 18 available spaces that dictate the movement of your assets.

-Artillery must be moved in accordance with the provided conventions.

Outcome

-Because this is a competitive 2v2 game, there is a 50/50 chance of who will succeed.

-Your deck is randomized, but there is still some skill required.

-The player who wins gains nothing; zero-sum.
